The Amisbühl above Beatenberg is the launch area for flights and tandems down to Interlaken, landing on the Höhematte or at Lehn. Heliports and Meiringen airspace call for good preparation.
The post bus runs to Beatenberg Waldegg, then it's 15 to 35 minutes on foot depending on the launch. By car, park at the Hohwald ski lift; parking at the launches themselves is banned.
Amisbühl oben (1,325 m, SE) is the main launch, with Amisbühl unten, Bergbo and the higher Hohwald (1,585 m, currently closed). Land on the Höhematte or at Lehn, each with its own circuit direction.
Thermal launches work best from morning to early afternoon. Strong valley wind is possible from midday in unstable north-westerly weather, and the Höhematte's buildings create lee and rotor.
Meiringen airspace can be active any time (status: 0800 496 347); fly outside the marked Interlaken/Gsteigwiler heliport zones and never into the Lehn firing lane. Non-members pay a CHF 2 landing fee there; tandem pilots and schools must register.
Amisbühl unten, Bergbo, Höhematte and Lehn run year-round; Hohwald is closed each winter for skiing.
