The Osterfelderkopf (2,057 m) lies near the Alpspitzbahn top station; launches sit at about 2,000 m, landing is in the valley at 730 m. The DGFW holds the site. Blasting cables run close to the launches, and the Reintal to the south has hardly any landing options.
The Alpspitzbahn climbs 1,287 m in nine minutes from the valley station (748 m) between Garmisch and Hammersbach. Park at the Alpspitzbahn and Kreuzeckbahn car park.
The main launch is the east launch (2,038 m, east to south) behind the Bergwacht hut; hang gliders may not use it due to nearby lift cables. For north wind there's a hang glider ramp and a paraglider launch. Landing is in the valley at 730 m.
The east launch is flyable in wind from 30° to 170°, but not in west wind or föhn above 35 km/h. From midday the valley wind turns north — switch to the north launch then. Never fly low towards the Reintal to the south, where landing options are scarce.
A briefing is compulsory at the east and Bergwacht hut launches. At the north launches, launch only when the Hochalmbahn gondola is in its station. Guest pilots buy a DGFW day membership (€4/day, €15/week) at the ticket office or online.
The Alpspitzbahn runs in summer and winter with varying hours; in 2026 it closes for maintenance from 9 November. In winter only the east launch is usable.
1. Osterfelder Ost-Startplatz, südl. der Bergwacht (Hauptstartplatz): a. Es darf nur gestartet werden, wenn sich keine Fußgänger auf dem Weg unterhalb des Startplatzes aufhalten. b. Die Sicherheitsmindesthöhen und Abstände zu Personen, Gebäuden und Seilbahnen sind einhalten. Die Sprengseile oberhalb des Startplat-zes sind zu beachten. Die Piloten sind darauf hinzuweisen. c. Aus Sicherheitsgründen hat der Abflug zum Landeplatz rechtzeitig und mit ausreichender Höhe zu erfolgen. d. Eine Einweisung ist für alle Piloten zwingend erforderlich. 2. Osterfelder Startplatz Bergwachthütte: a. Beim Start ist auf die Lifttrasse zu achten. b. Es darf nur gestartet werden, wenn sich keine Fußgänger auf dem Weg unterhalb des Startplatzes aufhalten. c. Die Sicherheitsmindesthöhen und Abstände zu Personen, Gebäuden und Seilbahnen sind einhalten. Die Piloten sind darauf hinzuweisen. d. Der Abflug zum Landeplatz hat rechtzeitig und mit ausreichender Höhe zu erfolgen. e. Starts dürfen nur bei einwandfreien Witterungsbedingungen erfolgen. f. Für alle Piloten ist eine Einweisung zwingend erforderlich. 3. Osterfelder Nord-Startplatz HG, Rampe: a. Zur Alpspitzbahn ist ausreichender Sicherheitsabstand einzuhalten. b. Flugschüler dürfen nur starten, wenn sie bereits 10 Höhenflüge in ei-nem anderen Fluggebiet absolviert haben. 4. Osterfelder Nord-Startplatz GS: a. Zur Alpspitzbahn ist ausreichender Sicherheitsabstand einzuhalten. b. Flugschüler dürfen nur starten, wenn sie bereits 15 Höhenflüge in ei-nem anderen Fluggebiet absolviert haben. c. Es darf nur gestartet werden, wenn die Gondel der Hochalmbahn in der Station ist.
