How we rank
By the paraglider and hang glider flights the Open Glider Network saw take off at each spot in the last twelve months. The ranking follows where pilots actually fly and updates as they do. Launch and landing data comes from the DHV site database.
Paragliding in Allgäu: questions
Hündle near Oberstaufen and Mittag near Immenstadt are the classic training hills: short, forgiving slopes, a lift to the top and flying schools on site.
From April to October. Spring brings the strongest thermals and the longest cross-country flights; late summer and autumn give smooth evening flying.
Guest pilots need a valid licence (IPPI card level 4 or the national equivalent) and third-party liability insurance. Many sites ask for a small day fee to the local club, and some require a site briefing before the first flight.
